Mandatory All-Staff Meeting

There will be company meeting on Thursday, May 31st at 1:00 p.m.  This meeting is mandatory for all full-time staff.  Join Marc, Paula, David and Martin as they give a wrap-up on this season, a look ahead to our 49th season, and an update on future priorities that were discussed at the recent Board retreat.

The meeting will be followed by coffee and treats in the lobby.  We look forward to seeing everyone there!

Select ‘Jitney’ Reviews

Following last Friday’s lauded opening of Jitney, the rave reviews have been pouring in. “Simultaneously funny, touching and revealing,” says the Orange County Register, “clearly the work of a master.”  LA Splash called it “a little theatrical gem” with a “flawless cast”.   The Los Angeles Times, Backstage, OC Social Scene, The Garden Grove Journal, and San Diego Gay and Lesbian News have all expressed similar sentiments.  Stay tuned for more Jitney coverage, and watch a few scenes from the show on YouTube.

‘Jane of the Jungle’ Staff Preview

The company preview for Jane of the Jungle will be at 3 p.m. on Friday, May 25, on the Julianne Argyros stage.  Everyone is welcome, but please check with your supervisor before taking off from your work station. Free staff tickets will not be available for any other performances, so check it out this Friday!

‘Jitney’ Inside the Season

Kimberly Colburn is pleased to announce her Inside the Season guests for Jitney on Saturday, June 9 at 10:30am.

Representing the creative team will be costume designer Dana Rebecca Woods. She also designed costumes for SCR’s production of Fences in 2010, and her work has been seen on stages throughout the Southland. Join us as she talks about the challenges and fun of creating the 1977 period costumes for Jitney.

From the cast, will be Charlie Robinson. A longtime actor at SCR, he’s appeared on our stages in Fences, My Wandering Boy, and The Piano Lesson. You might also recognize him from his extensive list of film and television credits. Come ask questions as we get the inside scoop about his work creating the role of Becker in Jitney.

Memorial Day, Departments Closed

On Monday, May 28, South Coast Repertory will observe the Memorial Day holiday.

Administrative offices will be closed. The box office will be open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and some production departments will be working.

Doors with fob readers will be on a holiday schedule, which means that doors that are normally unlocked during business hours will be locked and the security system will be armed. Support staff members who are scheduled to work will need their fobs.

Also, in an effort to conserve energy, please power down your workstations when you leave for the holiday break.

Wanna immerse yourself in Celtic culture and can’t wait another year for St. Patty’s Day to roll around again?  Now you’ve got another great excuse (as if you needed one!) to strap on your kilt and break out the whiskey.  ScotsFest will be held this Memorial Day weekend, on May 26 and 27, 2012 from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the Orange County Fair & Event Center (Orange County Fairgrounds), located at 88 Fair Drive in Costa Mesa, California.

Attractions include traditional bagpipes and drums, Highland dancing, famed Scottish athletic competitions such as the caber toss, childrens’ archery (perfect for the girl looking forward to Pixar’s newest upcoming feature Brave!) and, of course, the widest selection of Scotch whiskey this side of the pond. Visit their website for more information.
